ICMS Membership Categories
ICMS welcomes physicians and collaborators at all stages of their Mohs surgery journey — from trainees to senior leaders. Membership is designed to be globally inclusive while maintaining clear standards for full membership based primarily on recognition through established national and regional Mohs societies.
Full Member (Mohs Surgeon)
For dermatologic surgeons whose Mohs training and practice have been recognized by credible national or regional Mohs societies.
Requirements:
- Current membership in an ICMS-recognized Mohs society (e.g., ACMS, ESMS).
- Good standing with relevant national specialty boards or colleges (where applicable).
- Two professional references, ideally via a standardized ICMS reference form.
- Commitment to ICMS ethical standards and ongoing education.
Allied Member
For physicians involved in skin cancer surgery or reconstructive dermatologic surgery who may not meet criteria for Full Member status but are aligned with the ICMS mission.
Requirements:
- Dermatologists, plastic surgeons, ENT/head & neck surgeons, oncologists, and related specialists.
- Documented involvement or interest in cutaneous oncology and reconstruction.
- One or two professional references (standardized form preferred).
Member-in-Training
For physicians currently enrolled in dermatology residency or formal Mohs / procedural training programs.
Requirements:
- Verification of training status by a program director or supervisor.
- Access to ICMS curriculum, virtual case discussions, and mentorship.
- Reduced registration fees for selected ICMS meetings and courses.
Histotechnologist Member
For histotechnologists and laboratory professionals actively involved in Mohs micrographic surgery, recognizing their central role in quality and safety.
Requirements:
- Employment or active role in a Mohs laboratory or cutaneous oncology lab.
- Commitment to best practices in tissue processing, staining, and QA.
- Access to histotechnology-focused modules, forums, and mentorship.
Retired & Honorary Members
ICMS values the continued engagement of senior colleagues and global pioneers in Mohs surgery.
Includes:
- Retired Members: Former Full or Allied Members who have left active clinical practice but wish to remain connected.
- Honorary Fellows: Individuals with exceptional global contributions to Mohs surgery, dermatologic oncology, or education, nominated by the Board.
Application process
ICMS will begin accepting membership applications through an online application system in October 2026. Applications are not currently being accepted by email or PDF. Register your interest now and we will notify you by email when the online applications are available.
Recognized National & Regional Mohs Societies
Full Member status in ICMS is anchored in existing national and regional Mohs societies. Membership in these organizations, once reviewed and approved by ICMS, will serve as the primary pathway to Full Member status. A comprehensive, vetted list is being compiled.

Surgeons practicing in countries without a formal Mohs society may be considered through an alternative pathway, guided by the Membership Committee and regional mentors to validate training and practice.
